May flowers may be plentiful next month as April showers, and even possible snow, are expected through most of the week, forecasters said.

PENNSYLVANIA - May flowers may be plentiful next month as April showers, thunderstorms and even possible snow are expected this week, forecasters said.

Between two to four inches of rain are expected over the next few days as part of a developing coastal storm, according to the National Weather Service. Rain is slated to begin dropping on the southeastern Pennsylvania region Monday and Tuesday into Thursday.

Significant flooding isn’t expected, though minor flooring and/or rises could happen on creeks, rivers and streams, the National Weather Service Mount Holly station said in a statement Monday.

“Periods of rain with 1-3 inches forecast through Wednesday night could cause some flooding,” the weather service said. “Some tidal flooding possible Tuesday night/Wednesday.”

Monday’s forecast is wet with midday periods of rain and temperatures in the upper 40s to 50s, the weather service said. Tuesday’s daytime temperatures will remain, with a few late afternoon or evening thunderstorms possible. Wednesday’s rain could even charge to wet snow in the Poconos and northwestern New Jersey as temperatures drop into the 30s.

In fact, the entire Northeast is likely to see persistent chill (with temperatures 5 to 15 degrees below average) and frosty mornings mid- to late-week, AccuWeather said.

"Several days of cold winds will accompany and follow the storm that is likely to be a slow-mover," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski said. "It may seem like winter finally showed up."

The rain is expected to taper off by Thursday, which should see partly sunny skies with highs in the low 50s. The weekend forecast appears to be equally sunny with temperatures in the mid-50s.
