Ambler Tax Collector Compensation Increased by $500
Ambler Borough Council Jan. 15 voted to increase the compensation in 2014 for the tax collector by $500, half of the amount requested by incumbent Bernadette Dougherty
Ambler Tax Collector Bernadette Dougherty will receive $500 more in compensation in 2014 through 2017, following a unanimous vote Jan. 15 by Ambler Borough Council.
Dougherty said she initially requested a $1,000 increase.
The vote brings the amount of annual compensation to $7,780.

"It's for me, but it's not for me; it's for the position. There's no guarantee I'll win next time," Dougherty said prior to council's vote.
Dougherty is in her eighth year of her second four-year term as tax collector.

"The cost of living goes up," said Dougherty, as to the reason for her request. "I don't have an office in the borough."
Dougherty said she works out of her home. She said she also pays for liability insurance.
"Once council sets compensation, it stays for the next four years," she said.
By law, Dougherty had to submit a request by February 15, in the year that she ran for the position.
"I am running again," the Republican said. "Someone challenges me every year."
