I was driving along many years ago and saw a bumper sticker that read, "Think Globally, Act Locally." I thought about this bumper sticker from time to time as the years went by.

After living in Whitpain Township for eighteen years with my wife, Carolyn, and our two children, Josh & Sophie, and after sending our kids through the Wissahickon schools, joining Congregation Beth Or as second generation members, making great friendships and generally having been very fortunate while living in Whitpain, I have decided to jump in head-first and run for the Whitpain Board of Supervisors.

I have been in the business sector for my entire twenty-seven year career. Currently I work for Cargill on a trading desk in their Animal Protein Business Unit. I know how organizations and companies work, whether big or small, public or private. I have managed people and profit & loss statements and know how to achieve results while staying within budget. I have been an Administrator and Past President of a major trade organization in the Philadelphia region. After twenty years with the group, many years in leadership, I understand how executive boards work, how decisions are made and how to reach consensus.

Whitpain is a great place to live and raise a family. The schools are consistently rated highly, our park system has something for everyone, Whitpain is beautiful and is situated in a great location. We know all these facts, but.......

When we consider the leadership of Whitpain, we see five members of the Board of Supervisors all from the same political party - Republican; Democrats have no representation. Having all members of the Board of Supervisors from the same political party is bad government.  And, an all Republican Board of Supervisors simply DOES NOT reflect the make-up of Whitpain Township today.  Whitpain residents, no matter their political party, understand that having a rubber stamp Board of Supervisors does not make for the most effective local government. Whitpain can do better.

Together, we change this situation. November 5th, 2013 is the time.

I am running because Whitpain needs a leader with a different point of view, a point of view shared by the majority of Americans and also a majority of voters in Montgomery County. A leader who can bring a different perspective but also bring people together and bridge divides. A leader who believes in working in a bi-partisan way to make life better for all citizens of Whitpain. As a member of the Board of Supervisors, besides giving much deserved representation to Democrats, I will concentrate on five issues: your tax dollars, growing greener, a Human Relations Ordinance, Whitpain's 11 acre toxic waste dump and development.  I will stand up and hold developers accountable for their promises and make sure that new development provides public amenities that our community deserves, and I will do it in a manner that is fiscally responsible and environmentally sound.

I plan on doing the legwork necessary to win in November by meeting as many people as possible, listening to their concerns and coming up with creative solutions to address them. I will need your help in order to do so. Please consider making a contribution to my campaign of $25, $50, $100, $1,000 or more to help me get my message out and succeed on Election Day. Please send contributions payable to Friends of Ken Wollman to Friends of Ken Wollman, 293 Tulip Tree Ct., Blue Bell, PA 19422.  Or, go to www.votekenwollman.com.

Thank you very much.
