AMBLER, PA —The Lucky Well, a downtown anchor of the borough's restaurant scene, is closing.

The popular East Butler Pike barbecue restaurant which was opened by Food Network star and restauranteur Chad Rosenthal and Philly BBQ pioneer Chris McHugh in 2013, will end its 10 years of service on Dec. 31.

The space will be filled by Cantina Feliz, a Mexican restaurant located in nearby Fort Washington. An employee told Patch Tuesday he wasn't sure when the eatery would open in Ambler.

Since its doors opened in 2013, Lucky Well has served some of the best Memphis-style ribs, brisket, smoked wings, and side dishes north of the Mason Dixon line, its website stated.

Chef/Owner Chad Rosenthal’s menu features BBQ favorites, seasonal comfort food, and a full-service bar, with a top-shelf whiskey collection, craft-brewed beers, and scratch-made classic cocktails.

Born and raised in Philly, Rosenthal's a nationally recognized, self-taught chef who has been in the kitchen since age 5 and found his calling in the world of barbecue, Lucky Well's website states.

Over the past two decades, Rosenthal has appeared on several local and national television shows, including two seasons of "Food Network Star," "Chopped Grill Masters," "Beat Bobby Flay, and "Good Morning America."

Around Ambler reported that Rosenthal is closing the business due to the rising costs associated with running a restaurant, especially when it comes to BBQ, and the impact of the pandemic.

The Lucky Well had a second location in Warrington, which opened in 2019, but that closed as well.

A call was left for Rosenthal and the Lucky Well for comment by Patch Tuesday morning.
