Major Pharma Company Chooses Lower Gwynedd For New Facility

The 48,000 square foot manufacturing plant will bring new jobs to the area and bolster the region's healthcare industry, the company said.

LOWER GWYNEDD, PA — An international pharmaceutical company has chosen Montgomery County to headquarter one of its news manufacturing plants, they announced Tuesday.

Nucleus RadioPharma, a Minnesota-based firm which is backed by AstraZeneca, will build in Lower Gwynedd Township.

The location for the 48,000 square foot plant was chosen due to its proximity to Fox Chase Cancer Center, whose patients will benefit from the close location, the company says.

Nucleus uses radiopharmaceuticals, also known as a radioisotope, to diagnose and treat disease.

“To reach their full potential as treatments for millions of patients with limited options, theranostic radiopharmaceuticals must be available close to those who need them,” Nucleus RadioPharma CEO Charles S. Conroy said in a statement.

By having a major healthcare network that has a pre-existing partnership so close at hand, RadioPharma hopes they can drastically reduce the time it takes to bring new therapies to the market.

The facility will be located in the Spring House Innovation Park, which is located off the 700 block of Norristown Road.

About 50 new jobs are expected to come to the area due to the facility.

A second Nucleus manufacturing plant is being built simultaneously in Mesa, Arizona.
