Nazi Flag Display In Montco Called 'Shocking, Offensive' By Officials

Whitpain Township Supervisors said the Nazi flag display is an "abhorrent" demonstration.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA —The display of a Nazi flag appearing in a Montgomery County community is drawing strong statements from local government officials calling it an "abhorrent" demonstration.

The Whitpain Township Board of Supervisors has released a statement stating that they were made aware of a recent display of a Nazi flag in the township though officials did not state where the flag was raised.

"Both collectively and as individuals, we find this demonstration abhorrent, shocking, and offensive. There is no excuse nor any explanation for flying this flag," supervisors said. "That flag was and remains contrary to all that we believe in and all that the Township represents."

Township officials did say, though, that they recognize the flag display is protected under free speech under the First Amendment as established by the Supreme Court of the United States.

"Accordingly, while Whitpain Township is prohibited from and will not be taking any action toward the display, as individuals who live here, we condemn it in the strongest possible terms. We will not be silent in the face of evil. We trust our community will join us," supervisors said in the statement.
