No Kissing Protesters at Audubon, East Norriton Chick-fil-As

On Wednesday, Aug. 1, the lined up both inside at the counter and outside at the drive-thru window.

Many attended in response to a call for a show of support of the restaurant chain, whose president, Dan Cathy, made a statement against same-sex marriage. The call came from Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, who on his Facebook page, dubbed Wednesday as “National Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day.”

In response to the show of support, a grass-roots movement, opposing Cathy’s stance, had spread across the nation, largely through a Facebook page called, “National Same-Sex Kiss Day.”

and news reports from across the country showed images of same-sex couples in front of Chick-Fil-A restaurants kissing, and advocating for gay rights.

While the east-coast start was scheduled for 8 p.m., there were no such demonstrations outside the Chick-Fil-A in Audubon or East Norriton.

“I didn’t notice anything,” Sam Gallagher, Chick-Fil-A of Audubon team leader (on-duty manager), said.

According to Gallagher, he was on duty at the restaurant since 1 p.m. today. He was also on duty on Aug. 1, which he confirmed had an atypical sales that day.

“We did well on sales,” Gallagher said, adding that the high sales were expected due to the call for support.

Operator of the East Norriton Chick-fil-A, Allan Zarkoski, told Patch Friday evening that there has been no protesting at the location for “Same Sex Kiss Day,” which was organized across the country at Chick-fil-A’s for Friday.

When asked if the Chick-Fil-A of Audubon took a position, either with corporate Chick-Fil-A or with the protestors, Gallagher pointed to the Chick-Fil-A of Audubon’s mission statement, printed above the entrance to the restaurant:

“Our Mission is to be Montgomery County’s best quick service restaurant, and to always be a positive role model in the community.”

“It’s whatever that means to you,” Gallagher said. “It’s whatever you want to take that to mean.”

Zarkoski, said while there may be differences between Chick-fil-A corporate and the local level, Zarkowski did not want to discuss his views on the topic with Patch.

He said the East Norriton location treats every customer with respect and does not ask those sorts of questions before serving their customers.
