Bail Reduced For Ardmore Man Charged With Bank Robbery

Ardrick Butler, an Ardmore man , had his bail reduced from $1 million to $50,000 at a preliminary hearing held Thursday morning at the magisterial district court in Ardmore.

Butler, 27, is charged with robbery, terroristic threats with the intent to terrorize others, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property, according to court documents. His bail had been set at $1 million, but was reduced to $50,000 by Judge Kathleen M. Valentine at his preliminary hearing on June 21.

According to the affidavit of probable cause provided by the Montgomery County court system, Butler allegedly approached a teller at Sovereign Bank shortly before 11 a.m. on Friday, June 1, with a demand note reading “$15,000 all $100 bills” and “you scream or set alarm and I will blow your head off stay calm and cool.”

When the teller told the man that she didn’t have $15,000, Butler allegedly told her to give him whatever she had, the affidavit states. Butler allegedly took the cash she provided and the demand note and left the bank.

Butler was arrested when a Lower Merion police officer responding to the reported robbery found Butler standing on a toilet in a bathroom stall at the Ardmore Train Station, the affidavit states.

When found, Butler allegedly told police that they did not need to search him, advising police that the money, still in its Sovereign Bank envelope, was in his shorts' pocket. Police recovered the envelope, which contained a large amount of money, the affidavit states.

According to the affidavit, several witnesses brought to the train station identified Butler as the same man who had just robbed the bank. A shirt and hat that the suspect had worn during the robbery were located in a train station trashcan; in another trashcan, police found the torn up demand note, the affidavit states.

Butler has no prior convictions aside from juvenile offenses.  

Butler will be . According to , a man entered a Haverford 7-Eleven at 2:53 a.m. on May 25 and demanded money from the register at gunpoint. The man also reached over the counter and stole lottery tickets, the blotter states. 

While Butler was in Montgomery County custody, Haverford Township Detective Mark Johnson interviewed Butler regarding the 7-Eleven robbery. According to court documents, charges were filed against Butler in connection with the 7-Eleven robbery: robbery with threat of immediate serious injury, theft by unlawful taking, and receiving stolen property.

Butler is currently being held in Montgomery County prison. If he posts 10 percent of $50,000 bail, he will be transferred from Montgomery County jail to Delaware County jail due to his charges in connection to the Havertown robbery, Valentine told Butler in court on Thursday morning.

Butler’s arraignment in Ardmore’s magisterial district court is scheduled for Aug. 1.
