Details Emerge from Shooting on Schuylkill Expressway

A 22-year-old Philadelphia man has been charged in the alleged shooting of his father on I-76 Tuesday night.

Felony charges have been filed against a Philadelphia man accused of shooting his father in the head while they drove on I-76 in West Conshohocken Tuesday night.

Kymere Corbin, 22, faces 11 counts, including three felony charges for aggravated assault and carrying a firearm without a license, plus related misdemeanor charges, according to court records. He was arraigned before Judge William Maruszak Wednesday afternoon and has been remanded to Montgomery County prison, unable to post the $500,000 cash bail.

According to police, Corbin shot his father, Elbert Corbin, Jr., 41, in the head while traveling westbound in a 2010 white Buick Lacrosse on I-76 at approximately 5:45 p.m. Tuesday. The victim and Kymere’s mother, Tanya Bates, were taking him to be admitted at the Malvern Institute in Malvern when the shooting occurred, investigators told 6 ABC.

Elbert Corbin was treated by paramedics and taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center and reported to be in critical but stable condition. The son was taken into custody at the Pennsylvania State Police’s barracks on Belmont Avenue in Philadelphia. Kymere Corbin’s preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for April 20 at 3 p.m. before Maruszak.
