'Flash Freeze' Threatens Monday Evening Commute in Pa.

A “flash freeze” from dropping temperatures will create icy conditions that could threaten the Monday afternoon commute, authorities say.

The National Weather Service says flash freeze conditions are expected across the region as sharply colder air surges back across the region.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect through 6 p.m. in the Philadelphia region.

Temperatures will rapidly fall below freezing in areas that are currently above freezing, according to forecasters.

Wet roadways and sidewalks will become icy very quickly this afternoon and evening, resulting in hazardous travel conditions, the Weather Advisory said.

According to the National Weather Service, brief snow squalls will develop between 3 and 6 p.m. with wind gusts of up to 45 mph. “Temperatures will plunge into and through the 20s, eventually to between 15 and 20 degrees around 7 or 8 p.m,” according to the National Weather Service.

Authorities warn the drop in temperature will create “very hazardous travel conditions”

“Sharply falling temperatures late today will refreeze any standing water on roads,” the Weather Advisory said.
