Merion Mansion Razed For Larger Home

Lower Merion Township gave the owner the go ahead to demolish the current structure and build a new one.

A Merion mansion in the area of the Barnes Foundation is no more.

The township approved a permit to demolish 117 Raynham Road and build a new larger home, according to a township official.

The 12,000-square-foot home is owned by David Magerman, founder of Kohelet Foundation. It had been in poor repair and Magerman hired Pre-demolition Sales to sell off the home’s contents, according to Philly.com’s Neighbors Main Line.

Neighbors Main Line spoke with Tom Richter, who lived in the 86-year-old mansion for almost 30 years. Richter now rehabs old structures, but he said the cost to bring his former home back to life wouldn’t be worth it.
