Philadelphia Man Admits to Lower Merion Steel Theft

Gregory Keck pleaded guilty to loading a pickup truck with steel rebar from his employer in December.

A Montgomery County judge is considering the sentence for a Philadelphia man who pleaded guilty to the December 2014 attempted theft of steel materials from his Lower Merion employer, according to the Times Herald.

Gregory Keck, 38, of the 4600 block of Castor Avenue has been remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility until the results of a pre-sentencing investigation is completed and presented to Judge Wendy Demchick-Alloy.

Keck pleaded guilty to one count of burglary related to a December incident, when Lower Merion police officers were called to Metal Partners Rebar on Righters Ferry Road on a report of a suspicious vehicle. They found a man and a woman sitting in a truck that contained a load of steel rebar in the bed, according to reports.

The man and woman told police they were waiting for Keck, the report says, who loaded the rebar with a crane. When Keck returned to the truck, police held him until his employer arrived and told the officers that he did not have permission to take the steel, valued at $2,000.
