Police Blotter: Copper Downspout Season Continues

Police on Monday reported at least four incidents last week of copper downspouts being stolen from homes in Merion in Wynnewood:

Police said 25 feet of copper downspouts were reported stolen July 26 from the unit block of Trent Road in Penn Wynne. The homeowner was unable to remember the last time they saw the downspouts, police said.

Copper downspouts valued at $500 were stolen from the unit block of E. Wynnewood Road in Merion at 6:15 a.m. July 30, police said. Police said the resident heard noises and observed a black man with a stocky build, between 5-feet-10 and 6-feet tall, walk through the yard carrying a piece of copper downspout to an off-white pickup truck with a yellow service light on top.

Police said a 20-foot and 17-foot length of copper downspouts were stolen from the 1300 block of Andover Road in Wynnewood on the morning of July 30.

And two 20-foot sections of copper downspouts were reported missing July 31 from a home on the 1000 block of Indian Creek Drive, also in Wynnewood. The homeowner last saw them on July 19, when work had been done on them, police said.

Burglary: A house was broken into on the unit block of School Lane in Ardmore and was reported to police July 26, police said. No time frame on the burglary was given. Police said a Play Station 3 game system and $20 were stolen from the house, which has been burglarized before, police said.

Theft: Police said there was a theft from Lankenau Hospital in Wynnewood overnight between July 26 and 27. Office workers had cash and checks, with a total value of $165, stolen from an unlocked drawer in an office.

Theft: Police said employees of Saunders House in Wynnewood reported a man was breaking into vehicles in the parking lot about 1:23 p.m. July 29. Employees told police they watched a man pick up a rock and smash out a window. The man also tried to enter another vehicle and was seen trying to walk toward City Avenue. Upon arrival, police said they stopped Donald Brown, of the 600 block of Wynnewood Road in Philadelphia, and charged him with theft. A pocketbook was taken from one of the cars, valued at $142, and was recovered.

Theft: A retail theft was reported at Dake’s Drug Store on City Avenue in Merion on July 26. City Avenue bike patrol detained a man until police could arrive at the scene. Police said Steven Montalmont, 25, of the 5200 block of Arlington Street in Philadelphia, stole KY Jelly and Neosporin, worth about $25. Montalmont was issued a citation for retail theft, police said.
