Storm 'Watch' Upgraded to 'Warning;' 14 to 24 Inches Possible

A storm watch has turned into a storm warning for Eastern Pennsylvania. Forecasters are predicting two days of snow.

A storm watch has turned into a storm warning for Eastern Pennsylvania, with forecasters predicting a “historic” storm in the region that has the potential for 14 to 24 inches of snow over two days.

“A winter storm warning means significant amounts of snow is expected and strong winds are possible,” according to the storm warning, which begins at noon on Monday and continues through Tuesday at 6 p.m.

The storm watch has been issued for Delaware and Montgomery counties, as well as Philadelphia.

Travel will be very hazardous or impossible at times, the National Weather Service said.

The snow is expected to begin Monday morning. It will then “rapidly intensify into a nor’easter late Monday,” according to the storm warning.

“This storm is expected to result in deteriorating conditions as we go through Monday into Tuesday, with widespread travel impacts expected,” the National Weather Service said. Travelers should expect flight cancellations, major delays and possible airport closures late Monday through Tuesday, according to the Weather Channel.

The peak of the snow should fall late Monday through Tuesday night, the Weather Channel said. Snowfall rates could be a couple of inches per hour at times on Tuesday, the National Weather Service predicts.

“Do not proceed with any travel plans in the affected areas late Monday and Tuesday or you could put yourself in great danger,” the Weather Channel said.
