You'll Need Love to Keep You Warm: 'Brutal' Cold on Tap for Valentine's Day

Hopefully you have a sweetie to keep you warm this weekend, because Mother Nature won’t be throwing you any bones.

A harsh arctic outbreak with extreme cold and a chance of snow is likely this Valentine’s Day weekend, forecasters predict.

The brutal cold will kick in Thursday, when overnight temperatures are expected to plummet to single digits, according to the Weather Channel. That cold will stick around—and maybe even get harsher—through the weekend.

There is a chance of snow on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

Friday’s high temperature in the Philadelphia region will likely stay in the teens, according to forecasters with the Weather Channel. A low of one degree is predicted on Sunday, with a high of just 14 degrees that day.

In addition to plummeting temperatures, brisk winds will pose a threat to the warmth of the Valentine’s Day weekend, forecasters predict. Gusts topping 45 mph are possible for the Philadelphia area, according to Accuweather.com. Travel could be difficult and dangerous in portions of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York.

Wind chill values may come close to advisory levels on Thursday night and Friday morning, as well as Sunday.

“The storm could bring life-threatening conditions, especially in New England with very low temperatures and strong winds combining with snow to bring blizzard conditions,” AccuWeather.com Senior Meteorologist Henry Margusity said.

The NWS advises residents to make preparations to have sufficient fuel to heat homes and businesses and to protect pipes from freezing.
