The Hamel family lived in this two-story log dwelling located in then-'s Fairhaven area from 1909 to 1954.

The family members depended on kerosene lamps for light, a coal stove for heating and cooking, and outhouses for sanitary facilities, and they laboriously carried all of their water from a cistern some distance away.
