BALDWIN, PA — The Baldwin-Whitehall Educational Foundation held an event Sunday to raise money for a scholarship fund established in memory of a McKeesport police officer killed in the line of duty in February.

Guests were asked for donations and an auction was held.

The Officer Sean Sluganski Memorial Scholarship will be awarded annually to a graduating Baldwin High School senior who intends to pursue a career in law enforcement and crime prevention. Sluganski was raised in North Baldwin and graduated from Baldwin High School in 2009.

"The scholarship will be awarded annually and ensure that Officer Sluganski’s sacrifice will be remembered forevermore by his alma mater and the community where he grew up," a post on the GoFundMe page established to raise money for the scholarship stated.

On Feb. 6, Sluganski and Officer Charles Thomas were dispatched to a domestic-related disturbance call related to a man acting aggressively toward family members. The pair encountered Jonathan Morris, 31, on Grandview Avenue in McKeesport and a gunfire exchange ensued.
