Baldwin Native To Be Named Acting Suregon General

WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Joe Biden will appoint Baldwin native Susan Orsega to be the nation's acting surgeon general, according to multiple reports. Orsega will hold the position until Biden's nominee for the job, Vivek Murthy, is confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

Orsega currently is the director of Commissioned Corps Headquarters at the Office of the Surgeon General in the Department of Health and Human Services. Appointed in March 2019, she is responsible for directing personnel, operations, readiness, deployment, and policy for the approximate 6,100 members of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and development of the reserve corps. She has been principal advisor to the surgeon general
on activities and policies related to USPHS training and deployment.

According to a social media profile, Orsega attended Baldwin High School from 1984 to 1986 and participated in track and field and cross country activities.
