Giant Groundhog Statue On Display In Baldwin

A larger-than-life groundhog statue constructed using thousands of hard iced tea cans is Pittsburgh-bound.

(Lipton)

BALDWIN, PA — A 9-foot tall groundhog statue made entirely of Lipton Hard Iced Tea cans? You can be forgiven if you think the idea was conceived by someone who had too much of the contents of those cans.

Sober or not, someone did come up with the idea and Lipton has brought it to reality. What the iced tea manufacturer is calling the "Can Daddy" groundhog, made from 6,000 Lipton cans, will be displayed at two Western Pennsylvania locations in advance of Punxsutawney Phil's forecast on Sunday.

On Friday, Can Daddy will appear at Duffy's Beer in Baldwin and on Saturday you can find it at the Duquesne Beer Distributor in Indiana, not far from Gobbler's Knob where the real Phil awaits his annual day in the spotlight.

But that won't necessarily be the end to the statue's fame. Lipton plans on giving away its larger-than-life rodent to someone that actually might want to own it and display it - because what would be the point of hiding a conversation piece like a 9-foot-tall groundhog statue in the attic?
