This was a prominent man, educated at , who lived in then-Baldwin Township all of his life.

At 13, he started working in an area coal mine. He also did some farming and later started a coal business with his brother.

He married in 1889, and his family lived in a log house on a Baldwin farm.

In 1916, he was elected as the township's truant officer. That same year, he was appointed as the township's commissioner to fill an unexpired term. He then served in that position for 20 uninterrupted years.

He helped many deserving people in his lifetime as a member of the Baldwin Relief organization.
