BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA — Forty animals were adopted at the Women’s Animal Center during the national "Clear the Shelters" event this past weekend.

The Bensalem non-profit animal welfare organization had "an incredible day" uniting pets with people who will love them as part of NBC’s annual "Clear the Shelters" adoption event, organizers said.

Shelter officials said that 40 shelter animals found their forever homes: 27 cats, 10 dogs, one rabbit, one hamster, and one parakeet.

For a second consecutive year, Inspire Federal Credit Union partnered with Women’s Animal Center to cover the event’s adoption fees and support the organization’s life-saving mission, contributing $10,000.

Inspire customers donated pet food at branch locations to help pet owners experiencing financial hardship feed their beloved pets through the Center’s pet food pantry at Bristol Fresh Connect.

“Women’s Animal Center is truly grateful to all the adopters who joined us for the event and who have opened their hearts and homes to provide a loving forever family for a shelter animal," Katie Ottaggio, the shelter's director of shelter services, said.

“We are also grateful to our event partner Inspire Federal Credit Union for their incredible commitment and support, and to the PATCH for promoting this special event to our community," said Karen D. Lash, the shelter's fundraising and communications director.

So far this year, Women’s Animal Center has found homes for 800 plus surrendered and stray animals in the organization’s care, who received safe shelter, nutritious meals, enrichment, and medical care thanks to the generosity of donors and supporters.
