Bensalem Fire Community Mourns 40-Year Member

James Curran served as a battalion chief and in other roles with the Eddington Fire Company. His services are Thursday.

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —The township's fire community is mourning the loss of a lifetime member who served as a volunteer for more than 40 years.

The Eddington Fire Company has announced the passing of Jim Curran, "our friend, brother, and a guy that would do anything for you."

The fire company said that Curran was a life member with more than 40 years of service, including roles as battalion chief, company secretary, and fire police captain. He was also a member of the Philadelphia Second Alarmers.

"Our deepest condolences to Eddington Fire Company - Station 28 and Jim Curran’s family and friends," the Trevose Fire Company said.

James A. Curran Jr. died last Thursday surrounded by his family, according to his obituary.

Born on Oct. 26, 1940, in Philadelphia, Curran leaves behind a legacy of "selfless service and unwavering dedication to those around him," his obituary states.

Curran served the community in various capacities.

Besides the Eddington Fire Company, Curran was a member of the Philadelphia Fire Department Reserves, an EMT with Burholme Rescue, and the captain of the Bucks County Fire Police.

Additionally, his leadership as president of the Blue Army at Our Lady of Fatima Church, a member of the Bucks County HOGSan instructor at the National Institute of Emergency Care, Inc. showcased his deep-rooted values of faith, generosity, and mentorship.

Curran was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Helen, his son, James, grandson, Anthony, and siblings, Michael and Germaine.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Tomlinson Funeral Home, 2207 Bristol Pike, Bensalem, followed by his service at 11 a.m. The interment will be private.
