Bensalem Man Arrested After Attempted Purse Theft: Police

James Meehan was arrested and charged after admitting to two attempted thefts of purses at two local supermarkets.

BENSALEM, PA — A Bensalem man was taken into custody after admitting to two separate attempts to steal purses from women at local supermarkets on Tuesday, Nov 30.

Police responded to reports of an attempted theft in the Shop Rite on Bristol Road on the day of the arrest. The victim stated that a man walked up to her cart when she was not looking and began walking away with her purse in hand.

The victim was able to take the purse from him. He then left the store and drove off in a white Subaru Forrester with front end damage and a missing hubcap.

After receiving a report of the same vehicle being parked in front of a residence off of Gibson Road, police made contact with the suspect, James Meehan, who admitted to the crime. He also admitted to committing the same crime at the Acme food market in Bristol Pike on Saturday, Nov. 20.

James Meehan was charged with three counts of theft by unlawful taking and three counts of receiving stolen property. He will will proceed by summons.
