Bensalem Man Gets Prison In Deadly Hit-And-Run
He was driving 75 m.p.h. in a 35 m.p.h. zone when he struck and killed a 38-year-old Bensalem man, then left the scene.

BENSALEM, PA — A Bensalem man will spend up to a decade in prison after admitting he was speading when he struck and killed a a pedestrian, then left the scene last year.
Richard McCausland, 22, of Bensalem, pleaded guilty Tuesday to a host of charges including homicide by vehicle, driving without a license and reckless driving. Common Pleas Judge Jeffrey L. Finley sentenced him to 5-10 years in state prison and ordered him to pay more than $23,000 in restitution.
McCausland was charged in the August 11, 2019 death of Timothy McGuire, 38, also of Bensalem, on Hulmeville Road.

According to police, McGuire had been walking alongside the road late at night when McCausland, driving a green Kia Soul, hit him. Prosecutors say the car's GPS system showed it was going nearly 76 m.p.h. in a 35 m.p.h. zone around the time of the crash.
McGuire was thrown about 135 feet after being hit, according to investigators. His body was not spotted until about 6:15 a.m. the next day, in some bushes near Kings Avenue, prosecutors said.

Before McCausland was sentenced, McGuire's parents, Christine and Dennis McGuire, gave tearful statements.
"I have not been the same and I will never be the same," Christine told the judge.
After finding pieces of the Kia McCausland was driving at the scene, Bensalem Police put out a bulletin asking the public for information. Hours later, the damaged vehicle was found at his home.
