Bensalem Middle-School Hockey Team Hits The Ice
Backers are hoping the team, which welcomes students from all of Bensalem's middle schools, will translate to a high school team one day.
BENSALEM, PA — Young hockey lovers in Bensalem have a new way to hit the ice.
After decades without a squad in the township, the Bensalem Middle School ice hockey team is now competing. And they're off to a good start. Recently, the team won its first game, defeating Wissahickon, 6-1.
Kids from all of Bensalem's five middle schools — public, private and charter — and elementary schools are eligible to play on the team. Currently, there are just 11 kids on the squad. It is open to kids in 5th-8th grade.

Dave Gasiewski is head coach of the squad. He and his wife, Allison, got the team started.
"After watching our sons play for years at Grundy for the Grizzlies and Senators, we saw many surrounding communities had middle school and high school teams," Allison Gasiewski said. "Dave wanted to start this program so our kids and others in Bensalem could represent their community and hopefully have somewhere to play in high school."

They're already sporting a regionally significant logo. Designed by the sister of one of the player's dads, a graphic artist, the team's logo represents Benjamin Franklin, with a lightning bolt, kite and string.
