Bensalem Schools Serving Free Meals During Shutdown

UPDATE: During the week beginning April 6, lunches will be handed out on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, April 6-8. On Wednesday, April 8 children will be given meals for Thursday and Friday. Meals will resume on April 14 and continue throughout the closure.

BENSALEM, PA — Bensalem Township Schools will be serving free breakfast and lunch for kids while schools are closed due to concerns about the spread of the new coronavirus.

The meals will be served at several locations and will be bagged "grab and go" meals.

The district is using its Summer Food Service Program eligibility through a waiver from the state to serve children 18 years old and younger during the school closures.

The meals will be served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. beginning Tuesday, March 17 and running through Friday, March 27. Children must be present to receive meals. Vegetarian options will be available.

No applications are necessary. Meals are completely free and anyone is welcome.

At the pickup locations, no one will be permitted to enter the buildings. Meals will be picked up and taken home.

"Our goal is to make sure all children have access to healthy food during the closure, and come back ready and nourished to learn," the district said in a news release.

The current locations are:

• Belmont Hills Elementary School, distributed in main entrance bus zone, 5000 Neshaminy Blvd., Bensalem, PA 19020
• Russell C. Struble Elementary School, distributed in main entrance bus zone, 4300 Bensalem Blvd., Bensalem, PA 19020
• Samuel K. Faust Elementary School, distributed in main entrance bus zone, 2901 Bellview Dr., Bensalem, PA 19020
• Bensalem High School, flag pole entrance, 4319 Hulmeville Rd., Bensalem, PA 19020
• Benjamin Rush Elementary School, distributed in main entrance bus zone, 3400 Hulmeville Rd., Bensalem, PA 19020
• Creekside Apartment Complex, Community Center, 2500 Knight’s Rd., Bensalem, PA 19020

Any changes to the locations and times will be posted on the Bensalem Township School District website and on district social media pages.
