Bucks Co. COVID Cases Hit Lowest Rate Since July 4th

Two people, both in their 70s, died from the coronavirus last week in Bucks County.

BUCKS COUNTY, PA — The number of newly reported coronavirus cases in Bucks County has hit its lowest level since before the July 4 holiday.

Over the four days running Friday through Monday, the number of new COVID-19 cases in Bucks County averaged 23 cases per day. Over the four days prior to that, Bucks had averaged 29 new cases per day.

County health officials say the 92 new cases were the lowest since the four-day span from June 30-July 3, when Bucks averaged 21 new infections per day. Last week's seven-day total also was the county's lowest rate since early July.

"We will likely continue to trend downward until we reach our new baseline of cases here in the green phase," said Dr. David Damsker, director of the Bucks County Health Department. "While we can’t eliminate all COVID-19 cases, we should continue our efforts to minimize spread so that both Bucks County residents and affected Bucks County businesses can start recovering as quickly, and as safely, as possible."

Two new coronavirus-related deaths, however, were reported last week in Bucks County. A 71-year-old woman died Aug. 1 and a 74-year-old man died Aug. 7. Both had histories of underlying health conditions, officials said.

Of the 92 cases reported Friday through Monday, 18 were delayed reports of cases that are no longer believed to be infectious. Thirty cases were spread within households, 14 people got sick while out of state, 13 were pure community spread, nine were residents or workers at long-term care facilities, four got sick at other workplaces and three were healthcare workers.

Nineteen patients were unable to be reached by Bucks County contact tracers.

Since the pandemic began, Bucks County has had 6,801 residents test positive for COVID-19 and 515 deaths have been attributed to the virus. A total of 5,715 people have been confirmed to have recovered.

The median age of those who have been infected in Bucks County is 52, while the median age of death is 82.

As of Monday, 21 Bucks County coronavirus patients remained hospitalized, with two of them in critical condition and on ventilators.
