A former local high school coach was honored, and rewarded, Sunday for his work bringing football and cheerleading to Bucks County kids with special needs.

Robert Wargo, who had coaching stints at Bensalem High School and Neshaminy High School, was presented the Satander Community Quarterback program's "Top Community Quarterback" award at Sunday's Eagles game.

Before kickoff, the bank recognized 10 people for the positive impact they've made in the Philadelphia area. Wargo was voted by the public as "top quarterback" for the year and was awarded a $10,000 donation from Satander.

Wargo founded Bucks County Challenger Football. Using flag football, the league brings the Pop Warner experience to special-needs children, "offering them equal and inclusive opportunities on and off the field," according to Satander.

The other nine finalists received $5,000 donations.

"As a company committed to respecting our customers and communities, the Santander Community Quarterback program is the perfect opportunity for us to show respect to individuals who are change makers in greater Philadelphia," said Satander vice president Os Rana. "Robert has touched the lives of so many through his work with the Bucks County Challenger Football and Cheerleader program and we are thrilled to partner with the Philadelphia Eagles to recognize the important contributions he is making in his local community."

In the Challenger league, players receive training by volunteers, including local high school football players, during the season, which runs from September through November.
