Here's some recent Holy Family University athletics news:

Lacrosse Wins

Senior Jennifer James (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) scored a game-high eight goals to lift the Holy Family University women's lacrosse team to a 14-12 victory over Dominican College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at Tiger Field Saturday, April 16.

Holy Family is now 5-8 overall and 4-5 in the CACC, while Dominican is now 6-5 overall and 5-4 in conference play.  With the win, the Tigers keep their postseason hopes alive as they currently hold a half a game lead over Chestnut Hill College for the fourth seed. 

James led Holy Family with eight goals and now has 49 goals this season.  Junior Gina Mansi (Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) recorded a hat trick as she scored three goals, while fellow classmate Katherine Podlinski (Cherry Hill, N.J./Camden Catholic) added two goals.  Sophomore Jessica Maloney (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) controlled six draws and had two ground balls for the Tigers.

Junior goalkeeper Melissa Jenkins (Glenolden, Pa./Interboro) made nine saves for the Tigers, while her counterpart freshman Amanda Caprio tallied nine saves as well. 

Holy Family is back in action on Tuesday, April 19 as the Tigers host Chestnut Hill College in the team's final home regular season contest.  Game time is slated for 4 p.m.

Softball Wins

Freshman pitcher Rachael Alligood (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) pitched a one-hit shutout as the Holy Family University softball team defeated Nyack College, 2-0, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at Helen Randle Park Saturday, April 16.

Rain played a factor in the doubleheader as game one was called after five innings and game two was postponed due to the weather and field conditions.

Holy Family improves to 6-21 overall and 3-8 in the CACC, while Nyack is now 5-25 overall and 3-10 in conference play.

Holy Family is back in action on Sunday, April 17 as the Tigers host Concordia College in a CACC doubleheader.  Game one is slated for 12:30 p.m.

Golfers Finish 9th

The Holy Family University men's golf team finished ninth overall at the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Golf Tournament, which concluded Tuesday afternoon at the Whitemarsh Valley Country Club.

Wilmington University won this year's title edging out five-time reigning champion, Post University, by seven strokes to claim its first title.  Wilmington had four players finish in the top-10 including medalist Andrew Baldo who finished the two-day tournament with a low score of 145 (70-75). 

Sophomore Robert Moratti (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury) led Holy Family with a low-team score of 166 after the two-day tournament.  Moratti recorded a score of 82 on day one and shot an 84 on day two.  Fellow classmate Daniel Costello (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock North) finished 29th overall after shooting a two-day score of 167 (78-89).

Other scores for Holy Family include sophomore Christopher Webster (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) who shot 175 (85-90) to finish tied for 36th.  Freshman Matthew Farrell (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) shot a 187 (90-97; t-47th), while sophomore Jonathan Burns (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) concluded the tournament with a score of 191 (92-99; t-49th). 

‘Crafts for Cancer’

The Holy Family University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) donated eight boxes of new craft items to local hospitals for children battling cancer through the ‘Crafts for Cancer’ organization.

‘Crafts for Cancer’ was created in memory of Everett B. Dunlap Jr., who lost his battle with childhood cancer in 2010.  During the month of March, ‘Crafts for Cancer’ collected new craft items, which were distributed, to children’s hospitals.

SAAC received a number of craft donations, including monetary donations, which then were used to purchase new craft items ranging from markers, crayons, coloring books, construction paper, art kits and sun catchers to name a few.

This marks the second straight year that SAAC has been involved with ‘Crafts for Cancer’ and saw a huge increase in donations this year.

“We are very grateful and thankful for the amount of donations we received this year,” said Holy Family Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance Ashley Cameron who oversaw the donations.  “We received more donations this year, including monetary donations, than we did the year prior.  We used the donations to purchase new craft items for the children.”

Holy Family donated eight boxes of new craft items, which will be distributed between the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and St. Christopher’s Hospital in Philadelphia.
