Hurricane Ian Postpones Fall Festival In Bensalem Township

The annual event scheduled for Saturday was delayed until Oct. 9 due to impending weather, township officials said.

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA —Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo's fears about the forecast from Hurricane Ian have come true.

So the annual Family Fall Festival, scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed until Sunday, Oct. 9.

"Due to the forecasted impending weather, Bensalem Township’s Family Fall Festival, originally scheduled for Saturday, October 1, 2022, has been postponed until Sunday, October 9, 2022," a notice said on the township's website.

The entire Philadelphia metropolitan area is currently forecasted to at least receive downpours from the storm, starting Friday night, according to AccuWeather.

The mayor had worried that rain might put a damper on festivities, announcing at Tuesday night's council meeting that the weather threatened the festival. Even a Sunday rain date wasn't worthy due to the gloomy forecast.

With the postponement, township officials also announced that the Back to the Eighties Show with Jessie's Girl will not be featured at the rescheduled festival and that another band will take the amphitheater stage at 6 p.m. instead. Fireworks will follow at 8:15 p.m.

The annual Family Fall Festival takes place starting at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, at the Bensalem Township Municipal Complex on 2400 Byberry Road.

Hurricane Ian has slammed the southeast this weekand headed for the Delaware Valley. Downpours and other impacts are possible as early as Friday, with related storms lingering into next week.

The heaviest impacts in the region appear likely to miss the Philadelphia area, as rain will be stronger to the south and the east of the Interstate 95 corridor.

Anywhere from one to four inches of rain could hit the Philly region by Oct. 3, according to AccuWeather. The National Weather Service says 1.5 inches of rain could fall by Sunday.
