Repeat Shoplifter Could Spend Time in Jail

A Philadelphia man faces a felony charge for allegedly stealing $118.97 in store merchandise.

A Philadelphia man faces as much as seven years in prison for allegedly shoplifting merchandise valued at $118.97.

Scott McFadden, 36, of Bustleton Avenue, was arrested and charged on Oct. 11 in connection with the alleged theft of power tools from Home Depot in Bensalem.

Police said a store employee saw McFadden select a Dewalt impact driver and take it out of the box and conceal it in his pants. He also allegedly attempted to steal a flashlight, according to court documents.

Because McFadden had four prior retail theft convictions, he was charged with a third-degree felony for the alleged thefts, according to court records.

According to the Pennsylvania Code, third-degree felonies can carry penalties of up to seven years in prison.

McFadden is free after posting 10 percent of $5,000 bail. He awaits a preliminary hearing in December.
