Allentown, PA. – (August 9, 2024) – British Swim School, the nation’s leading “learn to swim” franchise company, is excited to announce its newest Pennsylvania location. British Swim School of Lehigh Valley opened on August 5th with lessons taking place at the Allentown Park Hotel located at 7471 Keebler Way, Allentown, PA 18106. Lessons will be held on Mondays and Wednesday from 3pm-7pm as well as Sunday from 1pm-4pm.
Andrew Wieder brings a background rich with business development experience throughout his career. He’s worked in developing corporate sponsorships for collegiate and professional sports, and most recently has worked on the medical side of business development. While searching for a better work-life balance, the Lehigh Valley native said British Swim School offered a unique opportunity to make an impact on his community.
“I’ve always had a healthy respect for the water, but I never fully understood some of the statistics around drowning, which really surprised me,” Andrew said. “From an overall perspective, I think being able to run a successful business while also giving back to the community in several different ways really appealed to me.”
For over 40 years, British Swim School has been dedicated to teaching water survival skills by teaching infants, children, and adults of all ages the skills needed for water acclimation, water survival, and stroke development. Its mission — ensure that every person, regardless of age or ability, has the opportunity to become a safe and happy swimmer. ensure that every person, regardless of age or ability, has the opportunity to become a safe and happy swimmer.
Across the nation, eleven people die every day from unintentional drownings, with nearly 4,000 deaths occurring each year. Research shows that participation in formal swim programs, such as those offered by British Swim School, can reduce the risk of drowning by 88% among children who are most at risk for deaths caused by drowning. However, the risk of drowning isn’t limited to children: a Red Cross survey found that more than half of all Americans (54%) either can’t swim or don’t have the basic swimming skills needed to save themselves in the event of a water emergency.
“My goal is to serve the Lehigh Valley community by combining British Swim School's high-quality curriculum with the convenience of multiple locations throughout the region. As we grow, we aim to make expert swim instruction accessible to all,” Andrew said. “We really want to offer that education and help people.”
“Andrew was born and raised in the Lehigh Valley and his commitment to the community stands out,” said Ashley Gundlach, President of British Swim School. “When you combine that passion with his knowledge and business skills, we couldn’t be happier to have him bring vital water safety knowledge to the area. We’re excited to help him grow and succeed.”
