Emlen Tunnell Memorial Poster Dedication Set For May 21
The event will take place May 21 in Bryn Mawr's Emlen Tunnell Park, with a reception to follow at the American Legion Post 668 in Wayne.

BRYN MAWR, PA — Radnor's beloved son Emlen Tunnell will be honored with a memorial poster next month.
Tunnell, a Bryn Mawr native, is well known both as a Coast Guard hero and as the first African-American to enter the National Football League Hall of Fame.
On Saturday, May 21, Armed Forces Day, Radnor Township will celebrate the storied local with Emlen Tunnell Memorial Poster Dedication.

The event will take place at 5 p.m. May 21 in Emlen Tunnell Park, 57 Garrett Ave. in Bryn Mawr.
Parking at the park is limited, but there will be shuttle buses running at 4 p.m. from Rosemont Business Campus, 919 Conestoga Road.

Following the dedication, the American Legion Post 668, 401 E. Lancaster Ave. in Wayne, will host a reception.
Parking will be available at the legion.
In the event of inclement weather, the dedication will take place on Sunday, May 22.
The U.S. Coast Guard in October 2021 commissioned its 45th Sentinel-Class Fast Response Cutter (FRC) to be named in honor of Tunnell, a 1942 graduate of Radnor High School 1942 who served in World War II.
Tunnell played for the New York Giants and Green Bay Packers after serving, and later went on to coach both teams.
He died at 51 in 1975.
