Harcum Basketball Alumnus Wins Bronze Medal at Tokyo Games

Mihailo Vasic '16 competed for Serbia in men's basketball 3x3. Serbia was seeded No.1 entering the Olympics.

(July 28, 2021)--(Bryn Mawr, PA)--Mihailo Vasic, Class of 2016 competed for Serbia in the men's basketball 3x3 event, and this morning he won a bronze medal, the first Harcum alum to medal at the Olympics.

The Serbian team entered the Olympics seeded No.1 and remained undefeated until the
semi-final game when they lost 21-10 to Russia. They played Belgium for the Bronze medal and won 21-10 with Vasic scoring the game winning point. This is the fourth Olympic medal for Serbia in the 2021 games.

“Mihailo has had terrific success playing on the 3 v 3 professional circuit and now in the Olympics. He is the first Harcum alum to win an Olympic medal, quite an impressive accomplishment,“ remarked Drew Kelly, Athletics Director and Head Coach of Men's Basketball.

This year marks the debut of 3x3 Basketball at the Olympic Games.

Played on a half of a regulation basketball court, 3x3 requires six players and a hoop for 3x3 Basketball. Described as exciting, urban, and innovative, 3x3 Basketball is motivated by streetball and is considered one of the world's number one urban team sport.

Vasic has been playing for the Liman, considered the world number one in 3x3 Basketball, in Serbia for several years. After obtaining his associate's degree from Harcum, he finished his undergraduate degree playing for New Haven and graduated in 2018
