Lower Merion Accepting Applications for Commissioner's Seat

Residents are invited to apply for the Ward 2 seat that will be vacated by Jenny Brown on May 31.

On the heels of Lower Merion Commissioner Jenny Brown’s announcement that she will resign her seat on Sunday, May 31, the board of commissioners is seeking to appoint a resident of the township’s Ward 2 to fill the vacancy through the end of 2015.

The township says there are certain requirements in the First Class Township Code that must be met in order for candidates to be considered. Interested parties must be a Ward 2 resident for at least one year and cannot have been convicted of, or have pleaded guilty or no contest to, a felony within the past three years.

Candidates must submit a resume and cover letter of interest to Township Secretary Jody Kelley by Monday, June 8 at noon. Hard copies can be mailed to 75 E. Lancaster Avenue, Ardmore, PA 19003, or email to jkelley@lowermerion.org.

A special board meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 10 at 6 p.m. to conduct interviews. Nomination, selection and swearing in of the new Ward 2 Commissioner will take place at the June 17 board meeting.

The Ward 2 Commissioner vacancy will appear on the General Election ballot in November. The person elected then will finish Commissioner Brown’s term, which ends January 2018.
