Adaptive Sports Marks 11th Year
A banquet celebrating the Canonsburg-based organization that serves special needs folks will be held in April.
On April 5, a banquet at Western Area Career and Technology Center will help mark the second decade of Adaptive Sports, Inc.—a Canonsburg-based organization serving special needs youth and adults with a variety of sports programs.
Adaptive Sports Inc. was formed 11 years ago—in the summer of 2002—fielding two baseball teams at Washington Park. The teams were then known as “The Arc Angels.” The name was later changed to “The Little Wild Things” the following summer.
Two years later, and with two additional teams in tow, the league moved to Cecil Fields in Canonsburg. TOPs Soccer was soon brought into the fold, and spring, winter and fall soccer seasons were played at various locations. In 2009, spring and fall bowling was also added at Alpine Lanes in Washington.

After a successful Halloween dance followed the final fall bowling night, additional dances were added and held at Trinity Area High School. A New Year’s Eve dance for ASI athletes and their families has been held since 2011, and in 2012, the organization began offering five dances a year—each with its own distinctive theme.
Tennis at Canon-McMillan High School was added in 2010 and indoor baseball at C-Side Sports began in 2012. That same year, the month-long baseball season (for five teams) was moved to one of the new North Strabane Township fields.

This year, summer kickball and touch football are beginning at C-Side Sports.
And, ASI also sponsors an annual picnic following the baseball season and an All-Sports Awards Banquet in early spring.
A parent-operated organization, Adaptive Sports now offers year-round programs for all children and young adults. An annual $35 fee covers uniforms, equipment, insurance, photographs and tickets to the banquet, picnic and a Wild Things game.
