Allegheny County Airport Authority Plans Drawing for Hunting Permits

The Allegheny County Airport Authority plans to conduct a random drawing Thursday, Sept. 26 at the Findlay Township Activity Center to select 157 participants to receive archery-only hunting permits, and hunters from the Canonsburg area could be among the winners.

The permits will allow selected hunters access to roughly 2,362 acres of certain areas of the Pittsburgh International Airport property. 

Hunting will run Oct. 5 to Jan. 11 and is limited to archery only—no firearms.  

The opportunity was offered as a result of conversations with the Allegheny County Airport Authority, Sen. Matt Smith, D-Allegheny, State Rep. Mark Mustio, R-Allegheny, and Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald.

Elected officials, as well as airport authority representatives, will be in attendance at Thursday's drawing, which begins at 7:30 a.m.

A total of 2,933 applications—including 30 from Canonsburg, eight from Cecil, and dozens from elsewhere in Washington County—were received for the 157 permits. A random number generator will be used to select the winning numbers, according to the airport authority.

Each applicant has been assigned a number that is posted
on the flypittsburgh.com/archery website. The winning numbers will be posted on Friday, Sept. 27. 

Applicants do not have to be present at the drawing because the permits won't be available for pick-up at that time. All winners will receive an e-mail with instructions on how to pick-up their permit beginning on Friday, Sept. 27.
