The Canon-McMillan lacrosse team continued its winning ways Wednesday night by defeating the Aquinas Academy Crusaders 14-4 at J.C. Stone Field in Gibsonia.
The Big Macs jumped out to a 4-1 lead at the end the first quarter on a pair of goals each by Nick Carr and Ben Ward. Goalie Will Grazani turned away four of the Aquinas five first-quarter shots dashing any hopes of the Knights getting back into the contest.
The Big Mac onslaught continued into the second quarter as Connor Neimeyer netted three of his evening’s four goals, and for good measure, assisted on Evan Crompton’s goal to take Canon-McMillan into the locker room with an 8-1 half-time lead.
The half-time break did not cool down the attack by the Big Macs as goals by Ward and Crompton in the third quarter kept Aquinas at bay. However, Aquinas rallied when they closed the gap with three man-up goals in the fourth quarter, but goals by Neimeyer, Ward, Richie Leeds and Zach Moore closed out the game.
The victory takes the Big Mac record to 3-0, averaging 15 goals in each of its first three starts in 2013. Canon Mac Stadium will be the setting tonight as the Big Macs host the Knights form Knoch High School in a make-up game from last week’s snowed-out contest.
