Comments Regarding Hiring Process Raise Ire of Borough Councilman

Councilman Peter Lucas clutched a printed copy of a Canon-McMillan Patch article in his hands when he confronted fellow councilman Paul Sharkady at Monday night’s council meeting.

Upset over Sharkady’s comments about the hiring process of borough manager Robert Kipp, Lucas raised his voice angrily when reading a quote from Patch where Sharkady called the hiring process, “underhanded and sneaky.”  

“When you say underhanded and sneaky that implicates all of us. There was a committee set and I went along with my committee. I don’t like to be named as underhanded. That’s my report. I wanted to get that off my chest,” Lucas said.

Sharkady had told Patch he felt that he was not given sufficient time to spend with Kipp’s resume. The committee said they did not hand out Kipp’s resume sooner due to confidentiality reasons.

Lucas said that had Sharkady raised his concerns over seeing the resume to the search committee, which had been charged with finding a new borough manager, the committee would have gladly gone over the resume with him.

Sharkady did not publicly address Lucas’s concerns during the meeting.
