Man Jailed for Deceptive Business Practices, More

Leonard Lenkiewicz was jailed Monday on $25,000 straight bond.

An Apollo man was jailed Monday by North Strabane police on deceptive business practices and other charges, online court dockets show.

also charged Leonard "Lenny" Lenkiewicz, 38, a contractor, with theft by unlawful taking and for receiving advanced payment for services and then failing to perform them.

"(Police said) Lenkiewicz accepted a $2,800 payment as half the cost estimate to build a retaining wall at a home on Amberwood Drive in June 2011. Lenkiewicz reportedly deposited the money in his bank account but never purchased materials or returned to do any of the work. The homeowner had contacted the contractor after receiving a coupon in a mailer sent to the home," according to the Observer-Reporter, which added that the state’s attorney general’s office has filed a civil action against Lenkiewicz on behalf of 14 victims.

Lenkiewicz was arraigned Monday afternoon on the charges and arraigned before district , who set his bond at $25,000 straight.

A preliminary hearing for the man is scheduled before Weller at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 6, onine court dockets show.
