Pittsburgh Doughnut Shop Moving To New Home

A revered but closed Pittsburgh doughnut shop soon will reopen in a new location.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Four months after its closing, a popular doughnut shop soon will reopen in a new location.

The Better-Maid Donut Shop is moving from its former location on Steuben Street in Crafton Heights to a space on Greentree Road in Scott formerly occupied by Albero Verde, an Italian restaurant. The business announced the development on social media.

"After a few months of ups and downs, we decided that moving forward with a building we purchased in the West End was not financially viable. We pivoted and began looking for a new space to lease. We finally have some good news to share," the post stated.

"We found a great spot with a commercial kitchen, and signed a lease. It will take us some time to get up and running, but we hope to see you all very soon!"

An opening date has yet to be announced.

In July, the shop explained its Steuben Street closure in a Facebook post:

"We had big dreams of fixing up the this old property, painting the building pink again, paving the parking lot and continuing to churn out more and more donuts," the post stated.

"We could never come to an agreement with our landlord to purchase the property. And as the building continues to fall apart and the junk piles up in the parking lot, the rent increases still continue to come."
