Obituary: George J. Babka, WWII Memorial Association Charter Member

March 9, 1927 - Aug. 14, 2012

George J. Babka, 85, of , died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012 in Kindred Hospital in Oakdale.

He was born March 9, 1927 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of George F. and Stella Kosek Babka.

He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Navy.

He was an Ohio state patrolman for 10 years and then was employed as a sales manager of CCC Highways Trucking Co. for 30 years.

He was a member of in Canonsburg.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 902 and a charter member of the WWII Association.

He loved playing golf, pheasant, duck and geese hunting and was an avid trap shooter.

On Oct. 15, 1949 he married June E. Peterka Babka who survives. Also surviving are three daughters: Mary Ellen (Michael) Mellot, Christine Babka and Julie Babka. He is also survived by five sons, Patrick (Terri), Michael (Marcy), George (Mary Ann), David (Karen) and Joseph (Teresa) Babka.  He is also survived by one brother, Law John Peterka, 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Friends were received Thursday in the Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home at 194 E. College St. in Canonsburg.

 A blessing service was held at 10 a.m. Friday in DeAngelo Funeral Home. Interment followed in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
