Pet First Aid Class, Other Events Slated
Here's what to expect at Canonsburg General Hospital in August.

will host a pet first aid class and numerous other events in August.
Here is the skinny on what's happening all next month:
- Aug. 2 - Heart Saver Adult with AED - Instructors for this class have been certified by the American Heart Association, 6 to 9 p.m., McNary Conference Center. Fee is $25 per person. Call 1-877-284-2000 to register.
- Aug. 2, 16 - Safe Sitter Class - A one-day, medically accurate instructional class that teaches youngsters how to handle emergencies when caring for younger children. McNary Conference Center, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Registration fee is $45 per person and includes a T-shirt. Call 1-877-284-2000 to register.
- Aug. 3 - Free Blood Pressure Screenings Screenings from 8:45 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Peters Township Recreation Center.
- Aug. 9, 10- ZSilver 925 Jewelry Beautiful - Sterling silver jewelry will be availabe at reasonable prices from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Main Lobby. Proceeds benefit the Canonsburg General Hospital Ladies Auxiliary.
- Aug. 10 - Look Good...Feel Better - A free workshop will teach women with cancer how to understand and care for changes in skin and hair during and after their treatment. Sponsored by the American Cancer Society, it will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the McNary Conference Center. Please register by calling 1-800-227-2345.
- Aug. 11 - Healthcare Provider with AED Basic Life Support (For Health Care providers) -This intensive, one-day program is specifically designed for physicians, nurses, day-care workers, lifeguards and others whose jobs may require rescue breathing during a medical emergency. Participants earn a two-year certification from the American Heart Association. It will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and costs $35 per person. It will be held in the McNary Conference Center. - Aug. 17 - Grief and Loss Support Dinner - Rev. Cathy Peternel will host a dinner for those who have suffered the loss of a loved one at 6 p.m. at the McNary Conference Center. The dinner is open to the public and the cost of the meal is $6.50. Reservations must be made by Aug. 10 by calling 724-745-6100, ext. 4118.
- Aug. 18 - Blood Drive -Â A blood drive will be held at the Outpatient Care Center-Peters Township from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. To schedule an appointment, please log on to www.centralbloodbank.org.
- Aug. 22 and 24 - AARP Drivers Safety Program - Participants must be 55 or older and will qualify for a 5 percent auto insurance discount upon completion. The course will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the McNary Conference Center. The fee is $12 per person (for AARP members) or $14 per person (for non-AARP members). To register, call Physician Access at 1-877-284-2000.
- Aug. 28 - First Aid Course - This basic first-aid course offers a two-year certification through the American Heart Association from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Outpatient Care Center-Peters Township. The fee is $25 per person, and includes a first aid manual. Call 1-877-284-2000 to register.
- Aug. 29 - Â Pet First Aid Course -Â Learn to keep your four-legged companions safe at this free event, which will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Outpatient Care Center-Peters Township. Participants may purchase an instructional booklet containing pet first aid maneuvers at the seminar. Please call 1-877-284-2000 to register.
