Placement of July 4 Parade Chairs Discussed, But No Action Taken

Two councilman said they would not consider changing their votes to restrict the placement of chairs to 6 a.m. the day of the parade.

While Council again discussed the issue of when Fourth of July parade-goers can place their chairs on Pike Street, no decision was made Monday to amend its decision to restrict them to 6 a.m. the morning of the festivities.

Councilman Joseph McGarry made a motion to discuss the matter, and Councilwoman Fran Coleman seconded it during council’s voting meeting Monday night.

After discussing the pros and cons of allowing parade-goers to place their chairs out 24 hours and 48 hours in advance, both Councilman Paul Sharkady and Tim Bilsky said they would not consider changing their no votes on the matter, citing the chairs as a public safety issue, borough Manager Terry Hazlett said after the meeting.
