State Trooper from Canonsburg Pleads No Contest in Fatal DUI Crash

Jeffrey Dalessandro of Canonsburg entered the plea Monday afternoon.

A Pennsylvania State Trooper originally from Canonsburg and stationed in Erie pleaded no contest to homicide by motor vehicle while driving under the influence and driving under the influence Monday.

Jeffrey Dalessandro, 35, was originally charged Feb. 8, 2012 by state police in Corry, PA, with homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, two counts of DUI, involuntary manslaughter and other offenses following a crash that killed an Edinboro man.

GoErie.com reported that police said Dalessandro was off duty and driving impaired "when his eastbound truck crossed the center line on Route 6 in Union Township at about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday and struck a westbound Chevrolet Blazer driven by 21-year-old Daryl L. Nunemaker. Nunemaker was pronounced dead at the scene."

As part of an agreement with prosecutors, one count of DUI as well as the charges of involuntary manslaughter, careless driving, reckless driving and disregarding traffic lane were withdrawn, the Observer-Reporter indicated on its website.

Online court records show that Dalessandro will be sentenced at 9 a.m. April 25 before President Judge Ernest J. DiSantis.
