You're Invited: Performance in the Park Slated

The students and instructors at Accelerando in North Strabane want to show you what they've been working on during a two-week summer program.

When the 10-year-old girl walked up to Christina Chirumbolo in church and told her, “I want you to be my voice teacher,” the notion was the farthest thing from her mind.

But when the 27-year-old resident thinks about the inspiration for her foray into the instructing arts, it’s that moment when she agreed to take on the job that sticks out the most.

That one student constituted the beginning of Accelerando Music Conservatory—a school that grew from a small group of pupils to one that now boasts a colorfully decorated space on state Route 19 in North Strabane filled with students singing, dancing and otherwise performing.

Now Chirumbolo wants to show you what some of those students have been working on during a two-week summer program—and cordially invites you to join Accelerando’s students and instructors for a special outdoors performance Friday night.

“Everything you’re hearing is original,” she said Wednesday of one part of the program, as the sounds of harmonizing voices wafted out into the lobby.

Chirumbolo, a Carnegie Mellon University graduate, will also perform—something that is old hat for the singer.

Before becoming Accelerando’s executive director and owner, she toured Europe, promoting her first CD. Called “The Stranger,” it was collection of old-time traditional Italian folk songs made over in her style.

Also performing will be several members of her team, composer and songwriter Gino Barletta, choreographer Blyss Ezell and performer Denise Huduson—have have all worked with high-profile artists.

Also performing? Her friends and students Karley Ferlic and Mackenzie Cox, who will be debuting tracks from a project headed by Accelerando Los Angeles team, which has worked with Platinum-selling artists.

Interested?

The performance will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the turf field at located off state Route 519 (the entrance is near the township building) and tickets cost $15.

Chirumbolo said the performance is family friendly , adding that her students range in age from 6 to 20.
