• Washington, Charleroi among NAP grant recipients (observer-reporter.com) — Charleroi is set to receive major state-backed investment, including $237,500 for Main Street upgrades, park improvements, and stadium-lot redevelopment, plus $1.5 million over six years for broader revitalization. The Literacy Council will also buy a former school building in town to expand English classes and other services, while related grants support nearby communities and regional workforce programs.
   

• Mon-Yough River Valley Rotary donates care bags to police and fire departments (monvalleyindependent.com) — Charleroi’s police and fire departments are now stocked with Rotary-assembled care bags to help families suddenly displaced by fires, domestic incidents, or other emergencies. The bags, which include essentials and stuffed animals for kids, were donated by the Mon-Yough River Valley and McMurray Rotary clubs and also distributed to Donora and Monessen responders.
   

• Strimel pours in 27 as Gators hold off Propel Montour (heraldstandard.com) — Charleroi’s girls basketball team fell 60-32 at Frazier, with Eden Smith scoring 14 points in the loss as the Lady Cougars were outpaced after halftime. The roundup also highlights several other boys and girls high school basketball matchups and a Connellsville hockey shutout from around the region.
