Council met last night without its two highest-ranking members

met Monday night for its monthly meeting without the governing body's president and vice president.

Both President Nino Petrocelli and Vice President Michael Chiodo were absent, leaving the duties of overseeing the meeting to Councilman Joe Colosimo.

  • The borough passed a resolution authorizing the Char-West Council of Governments group to request $29,304 in grant money to upgrade the Route 50 streetlights to energy efficient LED bulbs. The council also announced it received about $10,000 in grant money to perform various demolitions around the borough.
  • Council unanimously passed an ordinance that would restrict parking on the northern portion of James Street. Borough Manager Lori Collins said some motorists have trouble pulling onto the street when cars are parked on the one side of the road.
  • The borough accepted a bid from Cargill, Inc., to purchase rock salt this winter at a price of $55.83 per ton. Councilwoman Mary Weise said the price is nearly a 10 percent increase over last year, but was still cheaper than two other competing bids.
  • Council accepted the resignation of John Franjione as the borough treasurer. Weise thanked him for his service and said he had worked for Bridgeville in many capacities. “This was not his first job for the borough,” Franjione said. “He’s had several. He’s done a great job for the borough in the past.”
