Heidelberg Police Officer Praised for Burglary Arrests

Heidelberg Borough Council presented one of its police officers with a commendation for his investigation and arrest of three people accused of burglarizing a home in December.

Heidelberg Patrolman Adam Nida received the Letter of Commendation from Mayor Kenneth LaSota for the arrests following .

LaSota said during the borough’s Tuesday night voting meeting that Nida spent a month-and-a-half working on the case and used searching warrants, phone records and surveillance footage from Heidelberg Park to identify the suspects. Heidelberg police also worked with officers from Pittsburgh, Robinson and Houston to solve the case.

“He was able to piece this puzzle together and make the necessary arrests,” LaSota said. “His superb investigative techniques yielded three arrests and removed three miscreants from our streets.”

Also during the Heidelberg Borough Council meeting…

Heidelberg resident Richard Pattinato was appointed to a four-year term on the borough’s Planning Commission.

The five-member planning commission reviews future land development, zoning and ordinances before making recommendations to the borough council for official votes.

“With his enthusiasm and ambition, we feel confident that he will make an excellent addition to the Commission,” Council President Raymond Losego said.

Pattinato is a physical education and health teacher at Keystone Oaks. He has a bachelor’s degree from Bethany College.

Columbia Gas plans to begin a natural gas pipeline improvement project on March 1.

The company plans to replace 1,600 feet of existing pipeline from in March and April.

Borough officials expect the project to affect Route 50 during daylight hours. The parking lanes between Collier Avenue and First Street will be restricting during work hours.

The construction might also temporarily interrupt natural gas service to customers connected to the main gas line. Columbia announced it will contact customers prior to the work to inform them when service will be shut off.
