Scott Changing its Garbage Ordinance
Township board will vote on tweaking the law later this month.

is expected to change its garbage ordinance again .
The change would allow people living in single-family homes to place garbage cans on any side of the structure as long as it’s within five feet of the residence, garage or shed. The previous rule mandated the bins be stored on the side or rear of the home.
The commissioners passed the garbage ordinance in April . The board is expected to put the wheels in motion to make the change during its Oct. 25 meeting before formally voting on the measure next month.

People living in all other structures, such as multi-family dwellings, will still have to place the garbage cans on the side or the rear of the building.
“It’s tough to have one (rule) that fits all, but it’s close,” township zoning officer Bob Fischer said during . “This is not a rampant problem. It was just a problem in a few areas.”

But Commissioners Bill Wells questioned why homeowners should be allowed to put their garbage cans five feet away from the front of the house. He preferred the garbage cans be touching the structure so they’re not an eyesore.
President Pat Caruso responded that she wouldn’t want her garbage can touching her home. Other commissioners said the five-foot rule is fine because it would be a waste of time to have code enforcement workers measuring each house to make sure it’s in contact with a home.
“I think it’s a good solution,” Commissioner David Jason said.
